Come develop a relationship to a prolific and versatile material of the Maine landscape; Clay. We will bring you through the process of harvesting clay directly from the land to finished pottery. The methods we will explore are slab, coil, pinch pots, and molding over forms; as well as how to make small items like beads, fat candles or rattles. Materials found in nature will help us make designs and burnish our pieces, bring our pottery to life!
We will need to let our pottery fully dry before firing them in a pit fire. During this second class, we will bring the pottery through the pit firing process, and spend most of the day rotating and watching our pots fire; for this reason, this day is optional and will be scheduled a few weeks after, on a day with the necessary dry weather. We will need to let the pots cool overnight before unearthing them from the ashes, so students will not be able to pick up their finished pieces until the day after. We will not ship so make sure you will be available to pick up your finished pieces within a month or two after the workshop.

Fire off the Landscape
Learning to go out into the woods and create fire with nothing but a knife is an exciting and fun experience, forming a profound connection to the land. In this workshop, we will learn about the technicalities of the bow drill friction fire method, and tinder bundle creation. With this practice and awareness we will explore the forest for the best materials. Using just these items we will transform them into fire making kits. Working together we will generate fire from the land around us.

Tracking Club
starting fall 2025!
Learn about the land around us through the stories left behind by the creatures of the forest. The more you learn about tracking, the longer and more detailed the story of the land gets. Each track contains and abundance of information, rich in detail, revealing as much as we are capable of seeing and asking. Each gathering, we will learn a new set of tracking skills and then go out on to the land to see what we can find!
1pm-4pm // Every second Saturday // Nov - April
